Eco Training Detail

The three month programme consists of five key courses, an educational tour and adventure tour, which combine to create this unique experience. Groups are small, with no more than ten students and an emphasis on practical education and enjoyment.

Dangerous Wildlife Course

An amazing opportunity to learn more about South Africa’s wildlife including the Big Five: elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhino.

• Identifying dangerous animals
• Distribution of dangerous animals
• Social behaviour
• Conservation of dangerous animals
• Identifying warning signals
• Handling potentially dangerous situations

Survival Skills Course

Learn the theory and practice of surviving in the bush:

• Orientation in the bush
• Finding water and food
• Building a shelter
• Making a fire using various techniques

Tracker Course

Understand the incredible skill needed to track animals in the wild:

• Finding and examining signs in nature
• Interpreting signs in nature
• Principles of tracking
• Systematic tracking

Wildlife Management Course

Acquire some of the key skills needed by game rangers in South Africa:

• Monitoring of wildlife (Counting and classifying of animals)
• Game capture techniques
• Game farm wire fencing techniques and maintenance
• Invader plant control
• Soil erosion control

Local Guide Course

Know the fundamentals:

• Guiding and conservation
• Geology
• Ecology
• Animal studies
• Plant studies
• Astronomy
• Camping in the bush

Educational Tour

The three month programme includes a ten day tour of some of our most famous national reserves, including the Tsitsikamma National Park, Addo Elephant National Park and Karoo National Park. The purpose of the tour is to expose students to other regions and to expand their knowledge of the biomes of South Africa.

Students will also visit attractions in the surrounding area, including the world famous Cango Caves and the Cango Wildlife Ranch; the ranch forms part of a cheetah conservation initiative and also offers exciting activities, such as crocodile cage diving.

Adventure Tour

As part of the standard training programme, we also offer an adventure package for our students. This includes a day of abseiling, caving, quad biking and kayaking.
